Understanding The Value Of Cancer Research

Welcome to this special episode of Understanding the Value of Cancer Research. I’m Eric Jordan, CPPA, and today we’re exploring a truly remarkable story—one that blends hope, science, and the evolving landscape of cancer treatment.

It’s the story of Joe Tippens, a 67-year-old businessman from Oklahoma, who faced a terminal diagnosis of small cell lung cancer and turned to an unconventional treatment that’s sparked global attention.

In August 2016, Joe was diagnosed with lung cancer—a tumor about the size of a fist. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation, treatments that wiped out the tumor but left him severely weakened.

Just a few months later, in January 2017, a PET scan revealed that the cancer had spread aggressively—to his neck, bones, pancreas, and liver. Doctors gave him only three months to live.

But Joe’s story didn’t end there.

Inspired by a veterinarian’s story about a scientist curing cancer in lab mice using an anti-parasitic drug called fenbendazole, Joe decided to try the drug himself. Fenbendazole is a veterinary medication used to deworm animals. It’s not approved by the FDA for human use in cancer treatment.

Joe began what’s now known as the Tippens Protocol—taking fenbendazole in a specific schedule: one gram daily, three days a week, followed by four days off. Along with natural supplements like turmeric extract and CBD.

And in just three months, by April 2017, Joe was declared cancer-free.

Since then, his story has inspired many. Oncologists like Dr. William Makis in Canada have reported patients achieving remission while using fenbendazole—sometimes in combination with ivermectin, an FDA-approved anti-parasitic for humans used off-label in cancer treatment.

Why do these drugs show promise against cancer? Studies suggest they attack cancer cells by boosting tumor-suppressing proteins, starving the cells of glucose, disrupting their ability to divide, and increasing stress on their energy systems.

Scientific research from institutions like Stanford University and peer-reviewed journals confirms these effects, showing fenbendazole’s potential to target cancer cells with minimal harm to healthy ones.

There are also inspiring patient stories. Take Donna Leland, a 64-year-old radio host diagnosed with Stage 3 cervical cancer in 2023. She chose to forego chemotherapy and radiation after surgery, instead using fenbendazole and ivermectin under the guidance of integrative physicians. By 2024, she was declared cancer-free and reported feeling better than ever.

Joe’s blog has reached over 20 million views worldwide, including a large following in China, and he’s kept his platform free from commercial influence to protect its credibility.

However, challenges remain. The FDA only approves fenbendazole for animals, and while ivermectin is approved for human parasites, it’s not formally approved for cancer treatment. Many doctors hesitate to recommend these drugs due to regulatory issues and limited clinical data.

Side effects are generally rare but can include dizziness, fatigue, and visual disturbances.

This story illustrates a larger truth: cancer research is evolving, not just through new drugs, but also by repurposing existing medications, offering new hope and options to patients worldwide.

As we reflect on Joe Tippens’ journey, it’s clear that scientific curiosity, combined with patient courage, continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in cancer treatment.

Thank you for joining me, Eric Jordan, CPPA, on this episode of Understanding the Value of Cancer Research. Stay curious, stay informed, and most importantly, stay hopeful.
