International
Wayside Gold Mines has been actively exploring for gold in the
Wells since 1995. The Cariboo Gold Project covers an area of
400 square kilometers (6 miles x 26 miles). The project
encompasses the Cariboo Gold Quartz Mine (active 1933-1959),
Island Mountain-Aurum mine (active 1934-1967), Mosquito Creek Gold
Mine (active 1980-1983) and the Cariboo Hudson Mine (active
1939). The project is located near the historic town of
Barkerville, the terminus of the Cariboo Gold Rush of the
1860's. The area has produced a total of 3.8 million ounces
of gold.
From
a news release re-printed in the
Wells Community News, January, 2002.
International Wayside's objective is an open pit and or
underground gold mining operation. In 2001 an exciting discovery
was made and called the Bonanza Ledge. In their 2003 Annual
Report, an independent preliminary assessment indicated a gold
mining operation of 6.5 years. Management's objective is to find
and prove enough gold for a 10 year project.
With the price of gold nearing $400 US an ounce this greatly
enhances International Wayside's prospects of their goals at the
same time bringing a boom of growth to the town and people of
Wells and area.
