ABOUT THE COMMUNITY: Coronach is located 100 miles south of Moose Jaw on Highway #36, and on the Assiniboia-Big Beaver branch line of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Population is approximately 950 persons. Coronach is on Highways No. 18 and No. 36 on the Assiniboia-Coronach branch of CPR (Canadian Pacific Rail). It is twelve miles north of the Coronach - U.S.A. customs office. Precipitation averages 7" to 15" per year. Summer-time is hot and dry; the winters are cold with periodic warming from the Chinook winds which blow in from Alberta. Customer base includes, but is of course not limited to, the area farmers, the town people, the Poplar River 600 Megawatt Power Station and the Poplar River Mine Luscar Ltd.. Coronach is able to provide all amenities, including churches, health care and a resident doctor. There are also ambulance services, R.C.M.P, a dental office, banks, service stations, home care, a hotel and motel, restaurants. Education and recreation facilities are in the area as well and include a Kindergarten to grade-12 school system, a swimming pool, curling rink, hockey arena, skidoo routes and a golf course. Wood Mountain Provincial Park is just a short drive away. |
