ABOUT THE COMMUNITY: Churchill has a large variety of activities to choose from, whether your interests lie in nature or adventure, the area will provide all this and more. The winter months are spectacular for viewing our Aurora Borealis, more commonly know as the Northern Lights. Spring through summer brings over 200 species of birds to Churchill, many of them rare sightings in their nesting plumage. During the summer many will delight to the sight of thousands of Beluga whales as they enter the Churchill river estuary to feed and calf. Summer is also a wonderful time to enjoy the rugged Hudson Bay coastline with its moss and lichen covered rocks and beautiful wildflowers. The fall delights with beautiful red and yellow colours, flocks of geese on their southern migration and the gathering of Nanook, the magnificent polar bears, waiting for ice to consume Hudson Bay so they can head out to their winter hunting grounds.
