As a student, I always enjoyed designing and making lasting
structures with my own hands. I suppose this led me to choose
to study architecture at the University of Manitoba. The
related idea of building gazebos occurred to me when a local
contractor I was working for acquired one a couple of summers
ago. That winter, my father and I built our first gazebo to
see if the idea was feasible. It sold, almost immediately,
after being displayed at a local greenhouse. I spent the rest of the
summer building and selling more. I have since hired another
post-secondary student. It feels great to be able to use some
of the architecture design skills we learned in University.
