Laser In Situ
Keratomileusis :
| Also called
LASIK, this procedure uses both
microsurgical and eximer laser
technology to correct vision
dysfunctions. A small flap
is made in the cornea and folded
back. The laser is then
used to remove a thin layer of
tissue from the exposed
surface. The flap is
replaced and will heal back into
position without the need for any
stitches. |
Astigmatic
Keratotomy:
| This is a
microsurgical procedure used to
make deep, curvilinear patterned
incisions in the cornea.
This will flatten the cornea out
in areas which are too steeply
curved. |
|
Photorefractive
Keratectomy:
| This is the
process of removing precise
amounts of corneal tissue using
the eximer laser.
Photorefractive Keratectomy
affects only the outermost layer
of the eye. |
Radial Keratotomy
(RK):
| This procedure
is used to steepen or bow the
curvature of the cornea by making
radial incisions through
it. This has the potential
to reduce, or completely
eliminate your need for
corrective lenses for distance
vision. |
