Tune-up or "Drivability Maintenance"

According to the Funk and Wagnall's dictionary, the definition of tune-up is:

An adjustment to bring an engine, motor or other device into proper operating condition.

The same dictionary defines maintenance as:

To keep unimpaired or in proper working condition.

Yesterday's tune-up, by the above definitions, was a combination of maintenance (replacing points, condensers, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and the fuel and air filters), and tune-up (adjusting point gap, timing, curb idle, fast idle, choke and choke pulloff).

Since there is virtually nothing to adjust on today's cars, the word tune-up does not accurately describe the action that takes place.

Today's tune-up is a combination of diagnosis and maintenance. It is very common to see a late model car, with over 70,000 miles and more on the original ignition components, with no noticeable drivability problems. Replacing ignition components rarely fixes drivability problems today. Today, it requires an accurate and complete diagnosis to determine the cause of the problem. The maintenance part then, is servicing or replacing the appropriate parts as identified during the diagnosis.

Major repairs

Why would you want to recycle your car or truck engine?

Why could a rebuilt engine be a better choice than a "brand new" engine?

How does an engine rebuilder restore my engine back to service?

Before beginning any work, we will first conduct a thorough inspection of the engine to determine if the engine is recyclable.

The engine may not be suitable for rebuilding for a variety of reasons, including, but not limited to:

If none of these conditions exist, and the engine is suitable for rebuilding, we then will return your engine to "original equipment" specifications using standard and uniform sizing throughout. During the process of restoring your engine to this "original equipment" condition we will:

We will recondition, assemble, and test your engine at our shop, and offer a complete guarantee on our work at extremely competitive prices.
